Eucalyptus grandis is a very tall tree to 60m with a straight clear bole. Bark is greyish-white or bluish-grey, smooth and peeling in strips. Leaves are greyish blue, long and curved; drooping Flowers are white in white in pointed cones. Mature cones are brownish, small with 4-5 valves, which are exerted and in-curved (cf. E. saligna), containing very many tiny seeds. Note: E. grandis is often confused with E. saligna, they are very closely related taxonomically and are similar in appearance and likely to hybridize.

Grevillea robusta is a tree up to 20m high or more with a straight bole. Bark is dark grey, very rough and vertically grooved. Leaves are silver-grey below and pale green above, fern-like. Flowers are in spikes, yellow-orange. Mature fruits are yellowish-brown capsules with a slender beak, splitting to release two winged and light seeds.

Cupressus lusitanica is a tree to 35m high with branches that hang down. Bark is red-brown with vertical grooves, turning greyish with age. Leaves are bluish-green with pointed tips. Mature female cones are brown and round, up to 1.5cm across, covered with scales, each cone with about 75 brownish seeds with a narrow wing.

Vitex keniensis is a deciduous tree up to 35m high with a clear straight bole. Bark is pale brown with vertical grooves. Leaves are compound, divided into 5 leaflets, on a long hairy stalk. Flowers are white or purplish with one dark mauve petal lobe. Mature fruits are black, round, about 1.5cm across, usually containing 1-2 or rarely 3-4 seeds.

Best sown in a seedbed since several seedlings will germinate from each nut and can be separated during pricking out. Seeds take a long time to germinate.

Flowers are large and showy, pink-white with crimson dots and purple-brown anthers on the long stamens. Mature fruit round, covered in warty prickles, opening into 5 segments exposing 8-10 black seeds which are 3-angled.
